“Mental ecosophy”, this proposal for the hybridization of philosophy with ecological thinking, which will be concerned with “reinventing the subject’s relationship with the body, with the phantom, with the time that passes, with the ‘mysteries’ of life and death” (F. Guattari), is a vast field to which we will want to dedicate some time. Resuming some of the research we started with “Climas” and closely following the proposals of Geopoetics, by Michael Taussig and David Abram, “Cratera” wants to seek intense experiences of connection with the land and nature that demand other forms of language and lucidity. Due to its strong telluric dimension and proximity to the pulsation and breathing of the earth, the volcanic landscape is the chosen territory to ‘install’ our research laboratory.
In a co-production with Teatro São Luiz and Teatro Nacional São João, and in the context of a program that TNSJ has been developing in partnership with Cape Verde, the idea is to focus research and part of the creation process on the islands of Fogo and Saint Vincent.
Beginning, end, deep, archaic. Explosive, intense, passionate, fruitful and at the same time devastating. The idea of a cup, a uterus, a more or less protected space, of rumours, of strange languages, of timeless imaginaries, has something Babelic that seduces us.
Combining research and creation, “Cratera” will be developed in 2022/2023, in various stages of residency. The final premiere of the project will only be in June 2023, but along the way, we will open the process in the form of staged readings. We wanted to risk what it will be like to start with the text.
