Derivas is the name we give to a work cycle that sits on a practice of reflection and exploration of cities founded on the concept of drifting [“derivar”] and their invitation to look and think territories from unexpected paths, places that seem to rest in a certain forgetfulness.
In Aveiro, our elected territory will be the “landscape between the sea and the land”, that “gigantic river polyp” loaded with lives and memories. Walkscapes, intense experiences of embracing the landscape, topographic breathing, fictional anthropology, spirits of places, micro-histories of people, things, of the entities that inhabit them are some of the key ideas.
“Life as a whole is collected in spaces and places that are only accessible to us by experiencing them, living them”. In each place, we value its existential dimension, the multiplicity of layers, and the plurality of durations. We cross discourses, readings, memories, and feelings, and end up proposing them as brief fiction.
A transdisciplinary walk-show, through unexpected places and with the participation of their inhabitants and local groups, the general feat into which we launch ourselves into.
As part of the Festival dos Canais’ programme, the launch of the new project by André Braga and Cláudia Figueiredo brought us closer to the territory of the Ria, with stories and testimonies collected on July 12th to 15th in an open residency at Teatro Aveirense. On July 15th at 4:30 pm in the Claustro da Santa Casa da Misericórdia, we gathered Fátima Alves, João Miguel Dias, Etelvina Almeida, and other guests to discuss different perspectives on the Ria, its history, current challenges and visions of the future.
