André Braga & Cláudia Figueiredo
13 & 14 and 20 & 21 July 2024 | Ria de Aveiro, Aveiro [PREMIERE]
Derivas Canais takes as its research territory the “gigantic river polyp”, full of lives and memories, which forms the so-called Ria de Aveiro. “Indecisive landscape between sea and land”, with more than forty kilometres of coastline, “surrounding all the shapes that islands, isthmuses, peninsulas can have, all the colours that river and sea can have”.
Walkscapes, intense experiences of immersion in the landscape, topographic breathing, fictional anthropology, the spirit of places, micro-histories of people, things, and entities that inhabit them are some of the key ideas.
The extensive area of Salgado de Aveiro will form the central nucleus of our map. The Ria Islands, with their lives little known and threatened by oblivion, are proving to be another interesting thread for research.
The more than human dimension, linked to fauna, flora, and moving materialities, is another parallel line that we will want to investigate, in conjunction with the cycle linked to eco-thought and geopoetics that is currently underway.
The participation of local inhabitants and groups is another important dimension to consider, both in the research process and collection of statements and in their involvement in the creation and final presentations. Of note at this level are the ongoing collaborations with the Quinta do Picado Band and the Sandra Leite Dance School.
The premiere and presentations are scheduled for the 13th and 14th and 20th and 21st of July 2024, with work taking place throughout the first half of the year.
