In 2024, Circolando – Central Elétrica returns with Watts – a program cycle strongly connected to performativity and sound languages. With support from DGArtes and the Criatório program from the Porto City Council, Watts 2024 will take place on February 16th and 17th at CRL – Central Elétrica and it brings us a free lineup of concerts, sound performances and live acts where voice, sound and the spoken word are the mottos to be followed.
On February 16th, we begin slowly at 9:00 pm with Blunt Knives, by Basalto, which comes from the namesake EP, this one being the result of an autobiographical experience, searching his place in a melancholic, dark musical universe of somewhat sad sounds. At 10:00 pm, the trio from Porto Conferência Inferno will take us into a macabre ritual of Western new age pandemonium, full of irony, grief, ecstasy and grimaces presented in their latest album Pós-Esmeralda. We close this day at 11:00 pm with the duo Rare Romance who bring the synthesized industrial, shapeless melodies and deconstructed beats to the Power Station.
On Saturday, February 17th, Romain Beltrão Teule opens at 8:00 pm with um pouco OFF, an initial stage of research around voice-over, and which seeks to address the concepts of phantasmagoria and spectrality. What they want, above all, is to question the way of seeing the world, what we believe we see and what we speculate is there, outside the field. Around 9:00 pm, Maria R. Soares & Antonio Marotta present VOID VOID VOID, a choreographical and sound performance about an empty landscape, where sound, space and gesture get diluted into a single matter. Working with abstraction and imagination but without losing the reference to the real, this piece is dedicated to building a landscape built upon the emptiness where the performers are the triggers for ignition, interruption, movement and transformation of the landscape which gradually takes hold. Pedro Alves Sousa enters the scene at 10:00 pm to present Calor Caluda, a performance that uses smoke and fans as musical elements combined with the saxophone and that explores the accumulated frustration and the boiling that turns into a void and the relationships of these ideas with silence and tension. Watts 2024 closes its lineup at 11:00 pm this day with Ugho, who will take us on a journey marked by fat basslines, broken beats and clinical samples.
Access to the event is free but limited to space capacity with ticket collection 1 hour before each session. No prior reservation is required.
The space has free parking and there will be food and beverages for sale.
