Applications for the Residency Program / Circolando – Central Elétrica 2024 are open between December 1st and 22nd, 2023. The program aims to support the creation of projects with a cross-disciplinary profile, stimulating research and investigation among artists interested in thinking with us the central theme that governs our activities next year: OTHER MARGINS.
We have noticed the growing number of works that emerge as an ethical sense that overflows, fissures and questions the creative boundaries that introduce and sustain the dynamics of coloniality, oppression and exclusion of the Other. In effect, the task of this call is to rescue and manifest the reason for the otherness that, here, is intended to be carried forward from the Other.
We seek the wisdom of border, as advocated by the author Glória Anzaldúa (2012). In other words, methodologies originating from “other margins” which, in addition to including a sense of territoriality, mainly indicate the border of which memory and speech are made. Without forgetting that the peripheries of struggle and resistance imply different and multiple perspectives, the question about the meaning of this call reverberates from the question about its critical reach in the face of the coloniality of power that translates into political, economic, erotic, religious, ecological domination, among others.
Submission of applications must be made in Portuguese, by December 22nd at 11:59 pm (Porto time: GMT +0), using a specific form fully completed and sent to the email residencias@circolando.com with the subject “INSCRIÇÃO CONVOCATÓRIA 2024”. Questions can be sent to the same email with the subject “DÚVIDAS CONVOCATÓRIA 2024”.
In this call, 04 (four) residency projects will be selected, exclusively by artists residing in Portugal (Portuguese or foreigners with residence permits), to be developed in person at Central Elétrica, in Porto, on two different dates:
