The premiere of OU will take place on April 25 and 26 at 5:00 PM at Teatro Municipal de Matosinhos Constantino Nery as part of the Festival Dias da Dança. Tickets are available here.

Inhambane, in southern Mozambique, is the place where Vasco da Gama and his crew are believed to have arrived more than 500 years ago, naming it the “Land of Good People.” Inhambane, also the homeland of Panaibra’s father, has always been and remains a “land of good people,” though such kindness did not prevent it from becoming a colony and undergoing other transformations imposed by human decisions.

Pierre Nora once said, “Memory is rooted in the concrete, in spaces, gestures, images, and objects.”

We are interested in thinking about History from that place, through a layered perspective that intertwines past, present, and future. We seek to continue researching what Paul Carter called the “politics of the ground”—“a new way of treading that does not level the terrain, but rather allows the ground to rise up into the body, shaping gestures, movements, and creating a new social choreography.”
