“We have an innate ability to remember and imagine places. Perception, memory and imagination are in constant interaction. We continue to build an immense city of evocation and remembrance, and all the cities we visited are zones in this metropolis that we call mind.”
(J. Pallasmaa)
The long-term cycle of “Spirit of the Place” continues working on the spaces of memory and imagination.
On the verge of a new future that is precipitating and that will lead to its end, we want to visit and get to know Quartel of Monte Pedral.
Rua da Constituição – Serpa Pinto – Egas Moniz, the Cavalry Regiment settled in the complex in 1912. The stalls and stables have long seen no horses, but they inhabit this ghostly sleep. From 1979 on the complex hosted the Porto Classification and Selection Center, where the entire northern part of the country went to do the Military Inspection.
Now, and not without some irony, peace is the tone that prevails. Silence, empty, white, space stopped, and ‘immersed in the deepest dream layer’ echoes the story.
