Between February 20th and March 11th, 2023, applications for the Residency Program / CRL – Central Elétrica 2023 are open. the central theme that governs our activities this year: TRANSOCEANIC CONFLUENCES.
We know that Hispanic and Luso-Brazilian societies were formed from the collision of worlds, perspectives, bodies, objects, species and subjectivities. The milestones of this process extend from the so-called “Colombian exchange” in the 15th century to contemporary migratory flows, constituting a long history of circulation, contacts and displacements.
We are looking for projects interested in broadening these perspectives, bringing different lines of thought into dialogue: how do different imaginaries approach this crossing? How does this perspective help to rethink categories such as race, gender and class?
Among the many possibilities are the results of confluences between objects, living organisms, languages and knowledge; the epistemological differences between the traditions of the Global North and South; the conceptualizations of subject, space, landscape and territory; post-human and ecocritical perspectives on transoceanic, insular and peninsular worlds; and the cultural productions that are born on the “margins”.
This residency program is funded by the Portuguese Republic – Culture / General Directorate of Arts and Porto City Council – Criatório.
In this call, 02 (two) residency projects will be selected, exclusively by Portuguese artists or those residing in Portugal, to be developed in person at Central Elétrica, in Porto, between June 12th and 30th or between July 3rd and 22nd, with public presentations information at the end of each residency process.
Each residency will take place concurrently with another project invited by Circolando – Central Elétrica, promoting the exchange and exchange of practices and research between artists from different territories and languages. For the July period, we are primarily looking for projects related to performativity and sound language.
Each residence will have a rehearsal space, artistic consultancy and financial support of 1,000 euros. For projects by non-resident artists in the city of Porto, we also provide accommodation.
