by Alanna Kraaijeveld (MTL)
6 to 10 november [6.30pm-9.30pm]: Circolando Space, Porto, Portugal
“What games do we play?” To be agile? To be inspired? To communicate?
This workshop’s point of departure is Fighting Monkey (FM), movement research co-developed by Linda Kapetanea and Jozef Frucek that aims to nourish and restore movement patterns and mobility. With emphasis on FM Movement Situations – task and game based irregular training structures – we will examine and test tendencies and limitations, both individually and in partners, and nurture mental and physical potential.
We are invited to confront and consider:
-Our expectations and assumptions
-Exploration of a spectrum of possibilities, exertions, and engagements
-The relationship between playing, problem solving, and creativity
-Accessing complexities simply, as well as the complexity of the simple
-Igniting new pathways for our learning and our understanding
-Immersing ourselves in a practice of defining what is important to us, and taking responsibility for our learning and our work given those imperatives
The proposed practice fosters adaptability, creativity, kinetic power, increased perception and communication: essential capacities for today’s contemporary performing artist.
