Atentamente, Umbrales is a choreographic investigation in its early stages, emerging from practices explored in previous creative processes — all driven by a persistent question: And now, where are we? The project is structured around the concept of the threshold, understood as a passage between worlds, states, or dimensions, unfolding both in spatial and sociopolitical realms.
This choreographic investigation was initiated and developed with a team of six dancers during a residency at Centro Nave, in Santiago, Chile, in July 2025. During the residency at Central Elétrica, as part of the InResidence program, Varinia Canto Vila (CL) advanced with another approach, bringing into the workspace the questions that drove her last three creations, as well as some words that helped her think about ways of dancing. These questions and words inhabit the space without visual or aesthetic weight, in an almost rudimentary presence. This space generated a sense of time in suspension, like an insistent present. She senses that this space could transform into a device allowing her to traverse states and dances that accelerate — like clothes spinning in the washing machine on the spin cycle… while one gets lost staring at that insistent and dazzling present.
