[PRÈMIERE – POSTPONED] 10 – 12 July | Santarém
Derivas [Walkscapes] is the name we give to a work cycle based on a practice of reflection and exploration of cities starting from the concept of drift and its invitation to deviate from the central path. A deviation that may not imply a great distance from the center, but only the search for another inclination of the gaze, always in search of the least evident place, the place that seems to rest in a certain forgetfulness. It is this practice, which some call transurbance, that makes possible the somewhat ambitious idea of proposing to a foreign city a route that has a lot of discovery.
This time the challenge came from the Municipality of Santarém.
The idea is to define a route in the city and create, in collaboration with the local inhabitants, a walk through unexpected and little-known places. In each place, we value its existential dimension, the multiplicity of layers, the plurality of durations. We cross speeches, readings, memories, sensations, and ended up proposing a brief fiction.
The project crosses a documentary practice, which involves the residents’ narratives and their relationship with the historical dimension of the places, with the work on texts and other references that launch us to a broader thinking and questioning of places.
